5. Breadth of Study
During the key stage, pupils should be taught the Knowledge, skills and understanding through:
... Year 6 Curriculum Map
... Tweeting and Blogs Plot
Year 6 Curriculum Map
Tweeting and Blogs
Michaelmas 2 Games Consoles
Lent 1 Digital Images
Lent 2 "My Best Friend is a Cyberbully"
Summer 1 "Here Be Dragons" Sort and Search Algorithms #DragonsICT
Summer 2 Video Project
Gunpowder, Tweeting and Blogs In this unit the children will combine their ICT work with their history topic. They will research the characters involved in the Gunpowder Plot. Each child will be allocated one of the plotters to focus on and they will blog as that character. They will also write tweets as that character to be published in the build up, and in the days after, the 5th of November. They will research and write questions for a Mastermind specialist subject round - i.e. The Life and Times of Robert Catesby. They will also create digital mindmaps about the Gunpowder Plot.
In this unit the children will learn about the evolution of Games Consoles, learning about the technology along the way. They will create Games Console Top Trumps and the project will finish with the children designing and advertising the games console of the future.
In this unit the children will learn about digital images. They will learn how they are displayed and saved. They will learn about pixels and the difference between file formats such as .bmp and .jpg. They will look at how digital cameras work and also compare these to historical technology for taking photographs.
"My Best Friend is a Cyberbully!"
In this unit the children will research the topic of cyberbullying. They will then write the script for a TV show in the style of the Jeremy Kyle show in which a host interviews a victim of cyber-bullying and the bully themselves.
Here Be Dragons In this unit the children will look at computational thinking and specific algorithms used for sorting and searching data.
In this project the children will create an A to Z of Winchester House (inspired by a recent McDonald's advert). The children will take photos and record video clips around the school to edit together to create a short promo for the school.
